Petipa, Marius
(11 mar. 1818, Marsella, Francia–14 jul. 1910, Gurzuf, Ucrania, Imperio ruso).

Bailarín y coreógrafo ruso de origen francés. Recibió las primeras lecciones de su padre, que era maestro de ballet. Fue bailarín principal en Francia, Bélgica y España antes de incorporarse al Teatro Imperial de San Petersburgo en 1847, donde también creó varios ballets, como La hija del faraón, gracias a los cuales lo nombraron coreógrafo principal en 1869. Cuando se retiró en 1903, había compuesto más de 60 ballets para los teatros imperiales de San Petersburgo y Moscú, entre ellos Don Quijote (1869), La Camargo (1872), La bella durmiente (1890), El lago de los cisnes (1895) y Las estaciones (1900), que constituyeron la base del repertorio clásico ruso.
